Feeling good and saving money as well as the Planet Local business and Farm managers attended a talk and demonstration of sustainable energy generation at Barwell’s Farm. Organised by The Wash Estuary Strategy Group through the successful “Renewable Energy Moving Forward” project, business managers visited Barwell’s Farm to view a straw burning furnace that has been installed to heat Adam Barwell’s commercial greenhouses. Adam burns straw that is a bye product of his everyday farming activities and, with a bale of straw delivering energy equivalent to 200 litres of oil, demonstrated that financial rewards can be harvested by going green. Adam likes saving money but his main motivation is his passion for environmental issues that drives this project. With the help of Tammy Smalley’s team at the Wash Estuary Project the difficult path from original idea to completion was completed and local schools have also benefited with educational visits. Paul Espin, Chairman of the Wash Estuary Strategy Group introduced the meeting.
